AUTUMN FRIENDS AWARD

After I posted the Awesome Blogger Award, Peggy encouraged me to also accept this Autumn Friends Award. Thank you, Peggy. I am so honored that you wish for me to have this award as well. I think this one is just darling - so appropriate for this time of year, which incidentally is my favorite time of year.

A VINTAGE RUG

I was looking at somebody's blog the other day at a post about hooked rugs. That reminded me. I made a hooked rug back in the early '60s. I found this picture of our son standing on the rug. He is almost 46 years old now, so you know the rug is old. 

Here it is now in our garage by the back door leading into the house. We use it to wipe our feet on now before entering the house. I think it has held up remarkably well. It is made of 100% wool yarn. I highly recommend wool. It doesn't retain dirt like synthetics do. This rug is getting a little dirty now but considering it has never been cleaned, it doesn't look bad.

PINKIE

Isn't this a cute little kitty? We named him Pinkie because he had a kind of pink tone to his fur. I could have used Pinky for Vintage Thursday Thingies. This picture was taken in 1955. I was 18 years old at the time when Pinkie was born to our cat named Jumper. Jumper was a Colorado cat who moved with us (my mom & dad) to California. Pinkie was born in California. Notice the bed made on the couch behind Pinkie? That's where I slept. The little house we lived in only had one bedroom so I slept on the couch. Things (material things) have improved in my life - a lot - since then.

A PRAYER REQUEST

This morning when I looked at my e-mail there was a request from blogging friend Hootin' Anni for a long time blogging friend of hers. P.J. and John live a few miles north of Galveston Island. They were evacuated last week for Hurricane Ike. They are just now able to return. Here is an excerpt from an e-mail Anni got from them. 

"We heard we can park on hwy and walk in from there (about 2 miles) entrance only with our IDs so that is the plan tomorrow. I have seen some photos but none of our specific house, after seeing those photos it may be just was [as?] well. The debris is mind boggling! I just keep telling myself...it's only stuff...it's only stuff. I'll check in when I can, a couple of my coworkers have power now so can use the computer there and one has even offered a room for us and our cats so we can be close to work on our home until it is safe to be there."

Hundreds (perhaps thousands) of other people are in the same situation. All of these people need to be in our prayers. As PJ said in her e-mail, she keeps telling herself it's just stuff...it's only stuff...  It is true it is only stuff but when it's your stuff, it does matter a lot even if it is "only stuff." Please join me in praying for them. 

MUST SEE VIDEO

I am not a Catholic, but I agree completely with the sentiments in this video. I wish everybody in America would view it. I know a lot of people will because these You Tube videos have a way of "getting around." I'm happy to have a part in that.  

A BEAUTIFUL AWARD

I want to thank Hootin' Anni again for passing this lovely award on to me. This award is very special. One thing that makes it special to me is that it is in Portuguese. I mentioned in a previous post a dear friend who spent most of the past 50 years in Brazil. So, she is very fluent in Portuguese. When I saw that this was written in that language, I thought of Irene. Here is the translation. "This blog invests and believes the proximity" [meaning, that blogging makes us 'close' -being close through proxy] A lovely sentiment!!

Next comes the hard part. I'm suppose to pass this on to eight other people who are each supposed to do the same. This is always so hard because I would like to give it to everybody who visits my blog and leaves comments. I will narrow it down to eight though. Here they are.

WHICH GOD?

Years ago people in America, at least most people, knew who God was and even if they did not worship him, they had some knowledge of the God of the Bible. Today it is politically incorrect to even suggest that the God we read about in the Bible is the one true God. If you believe that now, you are considered narrow minded. Choose any God you want. One god is as good as another. If the Bible is true and I believe it is, God doesn't really want us to just choose any god we want. I think America, and the rest of the world, should consider this scripture warning. What if the Bible is right and all the PC crowd is wrong? Personally I think the PC crowd is wrong about just about everything. Why would we listen to them about this???

PINK SATURDAY

I've been intending to participate in Pink Saturday ever since I discovered it weeks ago. Since pink is my favorite color, how could I resist? So today I grabbed my camera and took a few pictures in just two rooms - the family room and the dining room. Here are the pictures I took.

Yes, I lit the candles just to take these pictures. lol

We have lots more pink stuff but will save them for another day. Happy Pink Saturday to you.

First I want to acknowledge this beautiful award from my friend Hooin' Anni. I'll be back on Monday to give more information about this award. Please pray for Anni. She lives in the path of Hurricane Ike and is probably evacuating now if she hasn't already done so.

NEVER FORGET

President Bush has made many mistakes, but I am thankful to him for helping to keep this country safe from another terrorist attack. 

The people who planned and carried out 9/11 didn't know who they were dealing with. I love this ship and what it represents. Here is part of the story as it was being introduced:

It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center. It is the fifth in a new class of warship designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite, LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on September 9, 2003 'those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,' recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. 'It was a spiritual moment for everybody there.'

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the 'hair on my neck stood up.' 'It had a big meaning to it for all of us,' he said 'They knocked us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back.'

The ship's motto? 'Never Forget'
