IS THAT MARILYN?

You never know who you might run into at the Five & Diner. We went there for dinner the other night and look who we ran into. Elvis was there too but Hubby chose Marilyn to have his picture taken with.

PLASTIC PEARLS

Our church publishes a monthly newspaper. In the latest one the following article caught my eye. It was so meaningful to me that I decided to use it for Spiritual Sundays this week. Here is the story:

 

Plastic Pearls

Little four-year-old Jenny went shopping with her mother for household things. After they had shopped for everything, Jenny spotted a beautiful plastic pearl necklace by the checkout line. Mommy can I please have this necklace?, she asked. Well Jenny, if you do enough chores around the house, then you can earn some money and you can buy it yourself. So Jenny went home and did all kinds of chores for two weeks. She cleaned the bathrooms, picked weeds in the yard and even filled the water bowl for the dog. Finally, she had enough money to buy her own plastic pearl necklace.

After Jenny bought it, she wore it every second of every day. She swam with it on and slept with it too. She loved her pearl necklace very much. One night her father came into read her a bedtime story like he had done every night. At the end, he asked Jenny, Jenny do you love me? Yes, daddy, of course I love you. Then give me your pearls. No daddy, you can have my life-size Barbie, but not my pearls. That's ok. Her father left saddened.

This happened two more nights until the third night when her father came in, Jenny was sitting on the bed crying, Here, you can have my pearls, Daddy. As soon as she handed over her pearls, Jenny's father pulled out a beautiful velvet case with a real pearl necklace inside. He had it the whole time, but was waiting for Jenny to give up her plastic pearls so he could give her the real thing. So it is with our Heavenly Father who asks us to give up our plastic pearls so that He can give us the real thing. What plastic pearls are we holding onto today?

This article made me think, what "plastic pearls" am I holding onto today that I do not love or trust my Heavenly Father enough to give them to Him. And what wonderful things does he have for me that I may never get to enjoy because I am holding onto the "plastic pearls."

Vintage Thingies Thursdays

This picture was taken in 1942. The little girl is my cousin Betty who was living with us at the time. The car behind her was our car. 

This picture of Betty and me was taken about the same time. She only lived with us for a few months. I was an only child and I loved having a "sister" for a little while. After she left I carried this picture, a 5 x 7 enlargement, around and played with it until I nearly wore it out. I managed to restore it somewhat on the computer. A copy of it hangs on the wall in my doll room along with other pictures that have special meaning to me.

Spiritual Sundays

Ginger and I are thrilled at the reception of and participation in the new Spiritual Sundays blog. To those of you who had a part in it, thank you, thank you, thank you. Every post was inspirational. 

It was not announced but we decided to give a gift to the first person to sign on to Mr. Linky on our first day. I am happy to announce that Ruthie is that person. I have been inspired by posts that Ruthie has made for a long time.  As soon as she receives the gift, I will post a picture to share with everyone. 

 

Now, I'm looking forward to this coming weekend and doing this again. I think as time goes on, more and more people will join in and be blessed also. God is so good and His love endures forever.

Dolls Dolls Dolls

I want to invite you to come over to my newest blog. I created it to experiment with stuff so I wouldn't mess up this blog if something went wrong. After I created it I decided I wanted to keep it. Maybe I'll create another one for experimentation. I've only done one post on this new blog, but since I made over 30 dolls I will be adding to it for quite a while. You can click here to go there. Too Much Good Stuff?

AM/PM Mini Mart convenience stores have an interesting theme. "You Can Never Have Too Much Good Stuff." I like their ads on TV - especially the one of the two guys floating on a swimming pool when a pretty girl comes up and introduces herself. I love the way one of the guys says, "Well, hello, Alex." 

I just got to thinking about all the "good stuff" we have in America. Not just in America, I'm thinking about all the "good stuff" that I have. I have so much more good stuff than I ever imagined I would ever have. God has been so good to me. The biggest problem I see with all our good stuff is that we focus too much on it and neglect the spiritual side. As I am getting "older" and getting closer to the "off ramp" (an expression I borrowed from a good friend in California), I am realizing more and more how short life is and though I am enjoying many good things, I realize how temporal these things are. I know when you are young you think, "I'll never be old" - it seems so far out there in the future. But the next thing you know, you're there. I think I need to change the tone. I think I am getting close to getting morbid here. I don't want to do that. 

What I do want to do is remind you of our new Spiritual Sundays blog. In just a few days Mr. Linky will be up so that we can start sharing inspiration/spiritual "good stuff".
