BYE BYE BLOGGING

I started blogging in 2008. At one time I had 5 blogs that I posted on quite regularly. So what happened? I think it was mostly Facebook and maybe a little Twitter thrown in. Instant messaging is the key. You write something on a blog and maybe someone will read it and maybe no one will. You put something on Facebook and immediately someone “likes” it.

I did keep one of my blogs going for over 12 years. Why did I keep it up? Spiritual Sundays was a blog where people could come and link a post on their blog. It was a very popular blog for several years. At one time 50 to 60 people would link there each week. I decided to close the blog recently because linking had fallen to an average of 12 links. Plus, I did get tired of posting every week.

So why am I writing this right now? Beats me. Probably nobody will read it. Who knows - I might even post something on one of my other blogs. Maybe not. If you are reading this, thank you.

I'm Back

Wow. I just noticed I haven't posted on this blog since last December. Right now I have no idea what I'm going to say here today but I felt the need to say something. OK. I do have one thing to say. I've just updated my background and header. I guess that's what inspired me. :)

I recently wrote an article on my Spiritual Sundays blog asking where have all the bloggers gone. I confessed that I have not posted anything on any of my blogs in  long time except the one blog that I post on every week (Spiritual Sundays.) Probably anyone who sees this post is aware of that blog where people link each week to share inspirational posts. I know there are bloggers who have been blogging for years and still do it but I also found that most of the people whose blogs I followed years ago have quit completely or have not posted in a very long time. I suggested that Facebook was one reason. Twitter is probably another reason along with Pinterest and so many other things that can be done on the internet. It is fun to speculate.

So what is the point of this post? You've got me. I just wanted to do it today. I do hope I don't wait quite so long next time.

Happy Anniversary

Hard to believe it has been seven years since my niece Ginger and I started a blog called Spiritual Sundays. Through the years many people have been blessed by not only reading what others have shared, but by sharing an inspirational post on their own blog. Ten years ago I didn't even know what a blog was. Amazing how many people still have no idea what you're talking about when you say you have a blog.  Well, if you're here, you know what a blog is. This is a blog. LOL

I wanted to take this opportunity on this blog to say Happy 7th Anniversary Spiritual Sundays. If you are not familiar with that blog, you can go there by clicking right HERE.

As you walk up the steps to the building which houses the U.S. Supreme Court, you can see near the top of the building a row of the world's law givers and each one is facing one in the middle who is facing forward with a full frontal view, It is Moses and he is holding the Ten Commandments!

More and more of our liberties are being taken away. Makes me think a little about the frog in the pot that didn't notice how hot the water was getting until it was too late. I think that is what is happening. Many do notice, but way too many are apathetic to what is happening. I'm afraid they don't even want to think about it. The above graphic was shared on Facebook and if you go there you probably saw it more than once. This truth is displayed in such a beautiful way that I decided I wanted to share it here on my blog. My goodness. How I have neglected my blogs since I got addicted to Facebook. Amazing.

The Truth About the Bible

I recently received an e-mail from an old friend and I thought it was so good I decided to share it here on my blog. Evidently it was written originally by Jason Carlson and Ron Carlson in 2011. I've known all these things for a long time but I like the way it is all "put together" in this article.

During a question and answer session at a recent speaking engagement, a university student asked me, "Why do you believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God?"

Now this is a very interesting question, and probably one of the most important questions any Christian could ask themselves.  What is so special, so unique about the Bible that Christians believe it is literally the inspired word of God?

In answering this student's question, I encouraged him to consider the following facts about the Bible.  First, the Bible is not just one single book.  This is a more common misconception than many people realize, especially with people who do not come from a Judeo-Christian background.  Rather than being a single book, the Bible is actually a collection of 66 books, which is called the canon of scriptures.  These 66 books contain a variety of genres:  history, poetry, prophecy, wisdom literature, letters, and apocalyptic, just to name a few.

Second, these 66 books were written by 40 different authors.  These authors came from a variety of backgrounds: shepherds, fishermen, doctors, kings, prophets, and others.  And most of these authors never knew one another personally.

Third, these 66 books were written over a period of 1,500 years.  Yet again, this is another reminder that many of these authors never knew or collaborated with one another in writing these books.

Fourth, the 66 books of the Bible were written in 3 different languages.  In the Bible we have books that were written in the ancient languages of Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic; a reflection of the historical and cultural circumstances in which each of these books were written.

And finally, these 66 books were written on 3 different continents:  Africa, Asia, and Europe.  Once again, this is a testament to the varied historical  and cultural circumstances of God's people.

Think about the above realities:  66 books, written by 40 different authors, over 1,500 years, in 3 different languages, on 3 different continents.  What's more, this collection of books shares a common storyline - the creation, fall, and redemption of God's people; a common theme - God's universal love for all of humanity; and a common message - salvation is available to all who repent of their sins and commit to following God with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength.

In addition to sharing these commonalities, these 66 books contain no historical errors or contradictions.  God's word truly is an amazing collection of writings!

After I had shared the above facts with this student, I offered him the following challenge.  "If you do not believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, if you do not believe that the Bible is of a supernatural origin, then I challenge you to a test, I challenge you to go to any library in the world, you can choose any library you like, and find 66 books which match the characteristics of the 66 books in the Bible.  You must choose 66 books, written by 40 different authors, over 1,500 years, in 3 different languages, written on 3 different continents.  However, they must share a common storyline, a common theme, and a common message, with no historical errors or contradictions."  I went on to say, "If you can produce such a collection of books, I will admit that the Bible is not the inspired word.

The student's reply was almost instantaneous, he emphatically stated, "But that's impossible!"

It truly is impossible, for any collection of human writings.  However, the Bible passes this test.  The Bible contains 66 books, written by 40 different authors, over 1,500 years, in 3 different languages, on 3 different continents, with no historical errors or contradictions.  The entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, bears the mark of Divine inspiration.
The next time you encounter someone who asks you why you believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, try sharing this challenge with them.  Better yet, don't wait until you're asked, just go ahead and share this challenge with a friend today.  You don't even have to mention the Bible up front, just ask them if they think it would be realistic to assemble such a collection of books.  After they say, "But that's impossible!" you've got a ready-made opportunity for sharing the truth of God's word with somebody!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day will come around again in a couple of days. Since I haven't posted anything on this blog for a long time, I decided to repost what I said about St. Patrick's Day three years ago. Where did the time go? I did add this delicious cupcake for your enjoyment. It was not included in the previous post. (Smile) So here is that 2012 post.

Since Saturday is St. Patrick's Day, I decided to see what information I could find about it online. Here's a portion of what I found. Some of it was contradictory. This is not surprising since he lived so long ago.

St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is one of Christianity's most widely known figures. But for all his celebrity, his life remains somewhat of a mystery. Many of the stories traditionally associated with St. Patrick, including the famous account of his banishing all the snakes from Ireland, are false, the products of hundreds of years of exaggerated storytelling.

Saint Patrick, who lived during the fifth century, is the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland. Born in Roman Britain, he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He later escaped, but returned to Ireland and was credited with bringing Christianity to its people. In the centuries following Patrick's death (believed to have been on March 17, 461), the mythology surrounding his life became ever more ingrained in the Irish culture: Perhaps the most well known legend is that he explained the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) using the three leaves of a native Irish clover, the shamrock.Since around the ninth or 10th century, people in Ireland have been observing the Roman Catholic feast day of on March 17.

Patrick Guided by Visions:
After more than six years as a prisoner, Patrick escaped. According to his writing, a voice-which he believed to be God's-spoke to him in a dream, telling him it was time to leave Ireland.

To do so, Patrick walked nearly 200 miles from County Mayo, where it is believed he was held, to the Irish coast. After escaping to Britain, Patrick reported that he experienced a second revelation-an angel in a dream tells him to return to Ireland as a missionary. Soon after, Patrick began religious training, a course of study that lasted more than fifteen years. After his ordination as a priest, he was sent to Ireland with a dual mission-to minister to Christians already living in Ireland and to begin to convert the Irish. (Interestingly, this mission contradicts the widely held notion that Patrick introduced Christianity to Ireland.)

The beautiful prayer of St. Patrick, popularly known as "St. Patrick's Breast-Plate", is supposed to have been composed by him in preparation for this victory over Paganism. The following is a literal translation from the old Irish text:

I bind to myself today
The strong virtue of the Invocation of the Trinity:
I believe the Trinity in the Unity
The Creator of the Universe.

I bind to myself today
The virtue of the Incarnation of Christ with His Baptism,
The virtue of His crucifixion with His burial,
The virtue of His Resurrection with His Ascension,
The virtue of His coming on the Judgement Day.

I bind to myself today
The virtue of the love of seraphim,
In the obedience of angels,
In the hope of resurrection unto reward,
In prayers of Patriarchs,
In predictions of Prophets,
In preaching of Apostles,
In faith of Confessors,
In purity of holy Virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.

The power of Heaven,
The light of the sun,
The brightness of the moon,
The splendour of fire,
The flashing of lightning,

I'm always inspired by people like St. Patrick. He made such an impact on Ireland and Christianity that we're still celebrating his life after all these years. Wow 461 was a long long time ago. I like the explanation of the meaning of the shamrock. Thank you St. Patrick for your faithfulness. I will be wearing green in your honor even though green is not my color.

Last Days?

Following is a post I did over a year ago. It is even more relevant today than it was then. Such terrible things are going on all over the world. More evidence that these truly are the "last days". How long will they last and how much worse will they get? No one knows. I hope they won't last much longer.The scripture quoted indicates that there is a certain number of "brothers and sisters" who will be killed for their faith. This is happening more and more, but how many more will be martyred? Something to ponder and pray about for sure.

REVELATION 6

9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” 11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters,[e] were killed just as they had been.

When I read this scripture years ago, I thought "Yes, two thousand years ago many Christians were losing their lives for their faith." Then I thought that this doesn't seem that relevant today because this is not happening. Now when I hear of Christians being tortured and murdered in many lands around the world, I see that it is very very relevant. I have no doubt that we are living in the last days. I wonder, "how long." Yes, this is very relevant in the 21st century. I hope it doesn't come to this in America, but it would not surprise me the way things are going right now. The truth is we should be ready because the Bible says no one knows the hour except the Father. But there will be signs. So many of those signs have occurred in my lifetime.

Some who visit here may not know that I am the host of the Spiritual Sundays blog. We are now in our 5th year of sharing inspirational posts. We continue to have new people join us almost every week. Of course many have shared in the past who no longer share. That is to be expected. I am just glad that so many continue to be blessed by sharing there and reading what others have shared.

TIME TO BLOG

I am starting this post with no idea what I am about to say. My last post was entitled "Where Have All the Bloggers Gone". That was several weeks ago. Yesterday I was talking to a blogger who hasn't posted anything in a very long time. She writes very interesting stuff and I always enjoyed reading it. When asked about it, she replied that she didn't think it really made any difference whether she blogged or not. She had gotten discouraged. I think this is the feeling many have. What difference does it make? Someone commented that they thought it was a good thing for her to do even if it was just for herself.

I know, there are still a lot of people who have been blogging for years and they haven't slowed down. I was glad to receive comments from some of them.

Now what? I said I had no idea what I was going to say, and it seems I really don't have anything to say on this subject. Why did I want to post something? I guess it was because I just made a new header for this blog and realized it has been too long since my last post. So, for better or for worse, here it is. A new post.

When I typed the title to this blog, the scripture came to mind which says there is a season for everything. There is even a song about it which has always been one of my favorite songs. The scripture doesn't say there is a time to blog and a time to not blog, but I guess it is still true. So for me ― today is a time to blog. Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings on the subject.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE BLOGGERS GONE?

I suspect the reason many people don't post on their blogs as often as they used to is because they spend so much time on Facebook and other sites like it. I have a long list of links to blogs on my sidebar that I had not visited in a long time. Yesterday I decided to click on a few of them. I was not surprised that some were closed completely and almost all of them had not posted anything recently. Most had not posted anything in a year or longer. One said they were taking a little break from blogging and would be back soon. That was posted a year ago.

I am happy to say that there are a lot of bloggers who have started blogging more recently who do post on their blogs and many of these share with us on Spiritual Sundays. And then there are some, like Beverly at How Sweet the Sound, who hosts Pink Saturday, who have been sharing on Spiritual Sundays for five years. 

I have four other blogs besides this one. The only one I post on regularly is Spiritual Sundays. I occasionally post one one or two of the other ones. Like other people, I get involved in other things and the first thing you know the blogs are all but forgotten. Does it matter?  Not really. I just thought it was an interesting observation.

Thanks for taking the time to let me share these thoughts with you. Blogging is still something I enjoy after doing it for about 6 years.

The following was written by Bill Mathes. Who is Bill Mathes? I don't have a clue, but I like this so when my cousin sent me an e-mail with this in it, I thought I would like to share it here on my blog. I can relate to so much of it. So here goes.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE

1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!

First, we survived being born to mothers

who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, Tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.

As infants and children we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

Riding in the back of a pick-up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon.

We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar.

And, we weren't overweight.

WHY?

Because we were always outside playing...that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were O.K.

 We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps. And then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes.

There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable,

No video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's,

no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms. WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.

Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.

They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

REMEMBER

I am borrowing a page out of the Daily Devotionals for Our 50th Year at Scottsdale Bible Church. I think it is always good to remember, especially what God wants us to remember. I think this expresses it well.

DON'T FORGET

"Remember this, keep it in mind..." (Isaiah 46:8a)

When the scripture says "Remember..." it's prudent to do so.! As a student is expected to master key concepts in a class, God sometimes spells out key things to remember. When it also says "fix in mind, take to heart," God is clearly giving a foundational thought meant to anchor the essence of who we are. Such an imperative comes in Isaiah 46:8-9. "Remember this, keep it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels. Remember the former things, those of long ago: I am God, and there is no other. I am God and there is none like Me."

So we're to remember, fix it in our minds and take it to heart...the former things of long ago. These are the miraculous interventions God did, such as delivering Israel from bondage in Egypt parting the Red Sea, providing water and manna in the wilderness and delivering their enemies into their hands as they entered the Promised Land. God doesn't seem to do the same miracle twice. In other words we're not to learn a formula of how God works, rather we're to learn to depend directly on Him as we learn to walk with Him. We're also to remember the times we've seen God work directly in our lives, answering prayer, leading or speaking to us, sustaining us and transforming us. Finally, and above all, we're to remember there is no other God than Him or like Him.....daily Remember!

Reading these words caused me to remember the many times God has answered my prayers and how He has worked in my life. I hope it does the same for you who are reading this right now.

MOTHER

My mother left this earth in 1999. If she were still alive she would have celebrated her 100th birthday last month. I still miss her especially on special occasions like Mother's Day. The following picture of my mother and me was taken in the 1960s. I still remember this special day. I made my dress and the one my mother is wearing for Mother's Day that year. My dear Hubby bought the corsages for us. 

One of the things I appreciated most about my mother was her love for God, Jesus, and the church. Everyone who knew my mother loved her. She showed genuine interest in everyone she met. In fact, she used to drive me a little crazy when she would start telling me about someone she knew who I hardly knew or didn't know at all, and she would go into detail telling me all about something going on in their lives. I would think, (but didn't say) "I don't care." "I don't even know these people." She was interested in everybody. I mean, it wasn't like she just did this once in awhile. She did it all the time. Now I wish she was here to tell me some of her stories. I have the feeling that when I see her in heaven she will have lots of stories about lots of people she has met there to tell me about. It will be a wonderful time. I totally look forward to it.
